Brilliant and so useful I have been following Lisa's food blog since 2007 when my family and I decided to adapt vegetarian cooking into our lifestyle. Over the years her blog has been so important to me and when I click on her blog on the 8th of October and saw she had written a book I was so happy.I have since received a digital copy of the book and am thrilled to say I have read through the book and even tried a few of the recipes. It has beautiful colour photographs of 10 or so dishes and the mix of recipes cater for all tastes. I would recommend the sweet potato & kidney bean soup and no bake almond and cherry bites as well as the hummus pizza.Each recipe has been meticulously set out clearly and easily to understand. The ingredients are easy to come by even though Lisa is in Canada and I am in the UK I found all the ingredients in local stores.For me the highlight of this book - apart from the recipes of course, is the protein comparison table. (eg: 4 ounces of salmon (27grams) / 1 cup greek yoghurt (23grams)).Each recipe also has more information than just the recipe, it clearly tells you at the top if it is Gluten free, Soy free, dairy free, vegan, nut free or oil free.The tips are endless too, some of the tips include substitution tips, technique tips, serving tips, timing tips and you can also see the information about each serving (calories, total fat, carbs, fibre, sugar, protein and sodium).The pages are numbered and the alphabetical index is at the back of the book.It is clear to see a lot of time, effort and hard work has gone into selecting a nice mix of recipes that are quick and easy to prepare and also easy to tweak to your own taste.Disclaimer: I am so pleased to have received this Pre-release copy of the book directly from the Author and this review is my honest opinion.Good, basic vegetarian cooking There are some recipe books that have you drooling as you imagine the taste of the interesting flavor combinations or the beautiful presentation. This is not one of those books. The virtues of this book are the simplicity and speed of the preparation of some basic and also some very good vegetarian recipes. The book starts with some very basic kitchen advice, perhaps helpful for a novice cook, but generally familiar to anyone with experience. There follows recipes divided by categories. There were some interesting breakfast options: the lemon curd and ricotta pancakes sounded good, and I liked a number of the salad and pasta recipes. There are chapters on stir-fries and curries (several involve cauliflower) and on soups and stews (beans, sweet potatoes and lentils tend to show up in these recipes). The chapter on pizza and flatbreads does not contain traditional kinds of pizzas, but rather things like mediterranean or Mexican takes. The remaining chapters are on handhelds and desserts. Some ingredients that tend to show up in many recipes include goat cheese, mushrooms, cauliflower and chickpeas. There are few recipes that call for anything that cannot be found in the average grocery store. Alternatives are offered for the few more exotic ingredients that are used.This is a good introduction to vegetarian cooking. The recipes offer healthy, nutritious, meatless meals that can be prepared fairly quickly with basic tools and skills. It is a good way to get started on meatless cooking, or for those who already experienced with vegetarian cuisine, it provides a file of quick and easy recipes suitable for everyday meals.
